Silk Mark: Our Commitment to Authentic Silk

Celebrating the beauty of silk. Building confidence through authenticity.

Silk is more than a fabric. It represents generations of craftsmanship, the livelihoods of silk farmers and weavers, and a cherished part of India's textile heritage. When you invest in a silk saree, you deserve confidence in the fabric you are purchasing.

At Anitha Creations, we believe that this confidence begins with understanding silk and making informed choices. That is why we obtained Silk Mark registration and follow our own additional checking process to help ensure that the silk products we offer meet our expectations of authenticity.

What is Silk Mark?

Silk Mark is an assurance label introduced by the Silk Mark Organisation of India (SMOI), an initiative of the Central Silk Board under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.

Launched in 2004, the initiative was created to help consumers identify genuine pure silk products and promote confidence in India's silk industry.

The Silk Mark label is intended for products made from 100% natural silk. Its identifying features, including a hologram and unique number, help consumers identify labelled products and trace them to authorised users.

For customers, Silk Mark provides an important reference point when purchasing silk, particularly when it can be difficult to distinguish genuine silk from other fibres by appearance or touch alone.

Why does Silk Mark matter?

Confidence when buying silk

Silk can be difficult to identify by sight or touch alone. Silk Mark gives customers an additional means of identifying products represented as pure natural silk.

Recognition for genuine silk

When consumers can make informed purchasing decisions, genuine silk producers and traders benefit from greater confidence in the market.

Support for India's silk community

Behind every silk product is a wider chain of people, including farmers, silkworm rearers, reelers, dyers and weavers. Promoting genuine silk helps protect the value of their work and supports livelihoods connected to India's silk industry.

Better-informed choices

Understanding what Silk Mark covers also helps customers distinguish silk authenticity from other product attributes, such as weaving technique, zari composition, design and craftsmanship.

Why did Anitha Creations obtain Silk Mark registration?

For us, obtaining Silk Mark registration was a conscious step towards building a business grounded in authenticity and trust.

We wanted to understand the process, learn more about identifying genuine silk and help our customers make informed choices. The process also gave us an opportunity to learn more about the silk industry and the people whose livelihoods depend on it.

We are grateful to the Silk Mark Organisation of India for the guidance we received during registration and for helping us understand the significance of Silk Mark beyond the label itself.

Our responsibility does not end with obtaining registration. We believe that trust is built through the care we take in selecting, checking and presenting the products we offer.

Our additional commitment: We check, not just label

At Anitha Creations, we often receive silk products from manufacturers that already carry the Silk Mark label. While this label is an important assurance, we also undertake our own independent checks for silk authenticity.

If a product does not pass our independent check, we remove the Silk Mark label from that product and do not present it to customers as a Silk Mark-assured product.

We follow this approach because we believe that a label should be supported by our own commitment to checking the products we sell. Our aim is to be transparent with our customers and to treat their trust with the seriousness it deserves.

We want you to shop with the confidence that we take the authenticity of silk seriously, rather than expecting you to rely on a label alone.

What should you look for when buying silk?

When purchasing a silk saree, we encourage you to:

  • Look for the Silk Mark label on applicable products and check its identifying features.
  • Purchase from authorised Silk Mark users and retain your purchase invoice.
  • Ask questions about the fabric, its composition and the care it requires.
  • Remember that Silk Mark relates to silk authenticity; it does not, by itself, certify zari purity, handloom origin or every aspect of a product's craftsmanship.

Being an informed customer is an important part of protecting your purchase.

Our promise to you

At Anitha Creations, we celebrate the richness of Indian textiles and the people behind them. We believe that the beauty of a saree should be matched by confidence in what you are buying.

Our Silk Mark registration and additional product checks reflect that commitment. We will continue to learn, ask questions and take care in selecting the textiles we bring to you.

Because authenticity matters. And your trust matters even more.
